LDB Wakeschool plays host to stop 1 of the 2014 AOD Tour

In the words of LDB
Stop one of the AOD came around super fast this year with an amazing start to the season. For a change at this point in the year, the weather was great and this meant for lots of activity at LDB Wakeschool, getting booked up with all those looking to enter our 2014 AOD series for practice way in advance. With 40 plus entrants we were set to have as hectic a first stop as always.
A 7am start for me with the usual event obligations of branding the whole for the many awesome sponsors we have backing us again this year and although slightly windy, the sun was which meant for a great atmosphere as contest time neared.
There were riders turning up from all over the country looking to not only take the honours from this first stop but also secure themselves some ranking points for the UK Wake Series which is now a staple part of the UK boat contest scene. With four AOD stops in total, the Ryan Birch event, Rookie Rider league and of course Loch Stock contests, there’s now more events than ever for boat rippers of all ages and abilities to get stuck into the contest scene.
With Elliot Newman on the mic as usual, keeping riders, parents and spectators, the contest kicked off at 1 with the youngsters who were all showing the older riders at thing or two straight from the get go! Thrills a spills a plenty, the AOD 2014 got going in fine style. It’s actually kind of hard to mention all the riding highlights suffice to say there were a lot and the level of wakeboarding has stepped up yet again. All this will become very clear come the release of the AOD Stop 1 edit to be released the soon.

UK wakeboarding was truly transfixed on the Quayside wakeboard and waterski lake in Mytchett as the UK’s top boat wakeboarders battled it out for the title of National champion.

The G23 proved to provide a Wake to be proud of for all riders competing in this years competition. We were proud to have the opportunity to showcase this game changing boat at such a prestigious event. Riders were heard to be commenting on how awesome the wake was and were quite literally buzzing on and off the water.

The feedback that we received was fantastic from both riders taking advantage of the huge wake and from the crowd watching the eye catching G23 pulling all class and age of riders.

Peter Gill, chairman of Wakeboard UK, was the first to congratulate all the riders emphasising that the 2013 Wakeboard Nationals has produced a world-class display of riding that we in the UK can be truly proud of.

Every final was as hotly contested as the next and left those congregated at Quayside mesmerized at the amplitude and execution of riding. In Open Men Sam Carne triumphed despite acknowledging that the youngest rider in the final, Jorge Gill had given him a run for his money being the only rider to stomp a Mobe 5 in the competition. It was however Sam’s flawless action packed two passes which allowed him to be crowned National champion and stamp his authority with one eye on next weekend.

We would like to personally thank all that were involved in making the weekend such an awesome success, sponsors, riders and of course all of the crowd involved in supporting the riders during the 3 day event.

We are always looking out for talented young riders who are making their name in the wakeboarding world, for a while we have been following the growing talent of a fantastic young wakeboarder, Jorge Gill.

Jorge, who is currently riding in Orlando, Florida recently competed at the 2012 Nautique Wake Games, our guys from the Nautique factory watched as this young British wakeboarder proved his worth behind the phenomenal wake of the G23.

Jorge certainly had the Nautique guys talking and we are now happy to announce that Nautique in association with Midlands Nautique will be sponsoring Jorge for the 2012 season.

Knowing Jorge and his parents personally we have every belief that Jorge will do well in whatever he does, its an added delight to be able to help such a keen and genuinely nice guy who’s love for the sport and fantastic attitude towards it can be clearly seen.

With the continued encouragement and support from all his sponsors Jorge certainly has the talent, potential and backing to do great things. Jorge really does deserve all the support he can get and we are extremely happy to be apart of that.

Jorge has his own page on Facebook where his riding can be followed:

2011 Ryan & Tony Birch Memorial Big Air Competition

In 2008 the 1st Tony and Ryan competition was held at Chasewater Ski Club in loving memory of two very special people, Ryan & Tony Birch who were tragically killed in 2007 in an aircraft accident. Both family and friends were compelled to share a time to remember two very special people who they all lost from their lives. For the love, devotion and dedication that Ryan had for wakeboarding, it was decided that the most fitting memorial for Ryan and his dad would be to hold a wakeboard competition.

Each year the competition has grown in numbers both entrants and spectators. Due to the continual works at Chasewater this years competition is again being held at the West Midlands Water Ski Centre . Following the change in venue last year, it was decided to make the 2010 comp a one day event. This year we are taking up the whole weekend!!!!!!!! This years comp is being made even bigger!!!!!
